Windows-iPhone: Hackers brings to the iPhone 7 Windows XP
Recently also Windows XP - at least with an emulator running on the iPhone 7. In a YouTube video, a hacker demonstrated how to get the old PC operating system on the Apple Smartphone.

If you opt for an iPhone, you can automatically switch to the operating system iOS with all its advantages and disadvantages. But now there is a YouTube video showing how a hacker can run the ancient PC operating system Windows XP on a current iPhone 7 - and even use it with the touchscreen.

No hack but an emulator

However, this is not really a hack, but actually an emulator, which is installed on the iPhone and then runs Windows XP on the device. Remarkable is how well the emulator apparently functions and how the control of the mouse pointer was adapted to the touchscreen of the smartphone. This way the screen reacts like a trackpad: The pointer is moved by wiping and menus and folders can be opened by tapping.

Of course, the user friendliness remains modest overall. As usual with most emulators, it takes a feeling eternity to load the operating system on the iPhone and also the operation of the icons remains ultimately quite tricky. In the end, with Windows XP on the iPhone 7 but can not really do much. After all, the operating system was developed for completely different devices. Nevertheless, it is, of course, cool to see Windows XP on a smartphone.

Apple intentionally destroyed FaceTime in iOS 6
In the US, many users are taking legal action against Apple. They are accusing the company of deliberately destroying the FaceTime app for iOS 6 to force iPhone users to switch to iOS 7. The background is to be a patent dispute from 2012.
FaceTime in iOS 6

In the US, Apple is currently facing a new lawsuit. In it, several users propose to the company to have made the video chat app FaceTime 2014 in iOS 6 unused by an artificially generated bug. In this way, the company would have forced numerous iPhone owners to upgrade to iOS 7, as reported by AppleInsider. Especially on older iPhones like the models 4 and 4s, however, this resulted in sensitive performance losses.

The consequences of an old patent dispute

Background is apparently a patent dispute from 2012. Last year, the iPhone manufacturer was sentenced to a compensation payment of 302 million US dollars, because Apple for FaceTime had apparently violated a patent of the security company VirnetX. To circumvent further complaints, Apple had to outsource the data transmission of FaceTime chats to external servers of the provider Akamai, which however would have cost the service to unimagined heights. In 2013 alone the server costs the group about 50 million US dollar had tasted.

From 2014 Apple developed a new FaceTime app for iOS 7, where the data no longer had to be transferred via external servers. In order to completely bypass the server costs, the group is supposed to have lambed the "old" FaceTime app for iOS 6 deliberately with an artificially introduced bug, according to the application, to the users to switch to iOS 7 and thus also to the new FaceTime app too to force. In support of their complaint, the plaintiffs have submitted several emails from Apple employees to prove that FaceTime was intentionally destroyed in iOS 6. How the process could ultimately end, is still completely unclear at the moment.

Huawei is working on its own mobile operating system
The Chinese Huawei Group wants his operating system emotion UI to adapt to the needs of western customers. The android skin should therefore after the update in autumn clearly from the previous Apple look move away. According to the latest rumors Huawei also works in parallel to their own operating system for its smartphones.

Huawei wants to make it accessible to Western customers his User Interface.

Apparently, Huawei through the development of an own OS independent of Android, Google one day the support for third-party set or introduce restrictions. Also Samsung had already taken care with Tizen OS and the step to own software for its devices daring. According GSM Arena officer Huawei to this end is now an own developer team in Scandinavia, which earlier in the services from Nokia.

Big update for emotion UI in autumn
For the time being run Huawei devices but still with Android in the look of the emotion UI, also called EMUI. In the autumn of 2016 is now according to Android Authority an update for Huawei skin appear visually, which above all as a great step forward. The previous design of EMUI was primarily due to the Asian market, where they seem to be as simple as possible usability and high contrast colors are preferred. Huawei is behind Apple and Samsung is the largest smartphone manufacturer and now wants the sales figures in the west huge boost.

Apple designer recruited

This is the emotion UI again more on Android, which remind the user more flexibility and adaptation possibilities. Already in the last year, Huawei therefore the former apple designer Abigail Brody, which already at iOS collaborated. Android N will support the release not 3D Touch
Android N should not support 3D Touch to release apparently did. Google admits the pressure-intensive displays currently apparently only a small priority and instead focuses on other areas such as virtual reality.

With its 3D touch displays on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus Apple still has a unique feature, the offer so far only a few smartphones competition. Only the Huawei Mate S and ZTE Axon Mini offer so far a similar control feature. This should also only times remain so because Android developers Google acknowledges 3D Touch apparently currently only a minor role in. So to support the release not 3D touch operation also Android N as Recode reported, citing anonymous sources.

3D Touch is on Google's list, but not at the top
It initially had actually looked as if Android N support 3D Touch-like operation. Corresponding indications had appeared a few weeks ago in the preview versions of the new operating system. However, the priorities of the developers seem to have now shifted so that the 3D touch features may be supplied only with a later update.

VR important than 3D Touch?
One reason could be the focus Google to another important trend. So the software giant apparently working feverishly on a virtual reality version of Android that could bear the name Android VR and is expected to come on virtual reality goggles for use in future. A special glasses will be presented next Wednesday at the Google I / O 2016 apparently. Google itself has so far not expressed loudly Recode to lack of 3D Touch. Who knows, maybe surprise the company to its developers conference were yet with a new operating concept, which supports 3D Touch.

Samsung's TouchWiz to battery saving
Samsung apparently working on a new version of its TouchWiz UI. The user interface for Android smartphones and tablets from manufacturer to get a new programming and thus not only improve the equipment performance. The used coming volcano API will also conserve battery power.
A new base for Samsung's TouchWiz UI is designed to save valuable battery life.
A new base for Samsung's TouchWiz UI is designed to save valuable battery life.

For its TouchWiz interface Samsung earned in the past often criticism. For overweight, not efficient enough - these were just some of the criticisms. That could change soon. At least battery saving could work TouchWiz soon. On the SDC 2016 Samsung's in-house developer conference, the manufacturer presented according to Android Central the prototype of a new TouchWiz version. What is new is mainly the programming API volcano.

  • Google also uses Android 7.0 N on volcano API

Even the Galaxy S7 and S7 Galaxy Edge, Samsung took advantage the benefits of the interface. The volcano API brings namely graphically demanding processes on many different systems, including Android, running, and so optimizes the gaming performance of the smartphone flagships. This advantage has also Google recognized and integrated the support volcano in the developer preview of Android N. quite possible, therefore, that the next version of Android will be put on the programming with the great potential.

  • New interface to help TouchWiz save energy

If Samsung is expected from the volcano API as TouchWiz based mainly two things: an increase in performance and an increase in battery life. In initial tests, this worked well already. Scrolling through web pages loaded the battery 6.4 percent less than the previous TouchWiz interface. The opening and closing of applications was 5.76 percent more energy efficient. A 3600 mAh battery providing comprehensive - as it owns the Galaxy S7 Edge - could extend the overall battery life by about 40 minutes. Of course, it is so far only a test. It shows that there are still opportunities to improve the battery life of smartphones - without having to install a larger battery.

So spying technology in everyday life, our data from
Technology and Privacy has become a real time issue. Almost all the technical equipment and software programs that we use constantly collect data and send it to the manufacturers, developers and third companies. We declare at four popular examples where your data is collected and what it is being used.
 constantly
Technology is only useful but also collects data constantly.

Windows 10 as the new star among the data spies?
Ever since the release of Windows 10 in July 2015, data protection a key issue when it comes to the operating system. The concerns of many users are not unfounded. namely one selects when setting up Windows 10, the "Express Settings", then the data Sammelwut Microsoft are actually opened the floodgates. By default, Windows 10 detects pretty much the complete usage of the PC owner and also detects when and how often these specific apps used.

these data are used according to Microsoft, to develop the software further. This is certainly correct, but in addition, the company gathers evenly also data for marketing purposes to better selling apps and other products to the users. Furthermore, the Group reserves the right to share the collected data with other companies.

If you want to pass on as few data about his personal usage to Microsoft, should therefore choose when setting up Windows 10 in any case, the "Express Settings" or subsequently withdraw the system permissions granted under "Settings> Privacy" again. But even if users Windows 10 withdraw all authorizations, the data gathering can not completely stop. Either way, the PC connects regularly with Microsoft servers to transmit certain data - or receive.
Windows 10 detects diligent user data.
Windows 10 detects diligent user data.
Optional practical or critical also can be classified to the best setting, after a Windows 10 PC automatically sends the wireless password of the user to his Facebook, Skype or Outlook Contacts. Do this then also a Windows 10 machine and get into the vicinity of said wireless network, they automatically get access. Although the password is transmitted encrypted and can not be viewed by the recipient, while this feature might not appeal to everyone.

The new star among the data collectors is Windows 10 still does not. The operating systems of Apple or Google collect namely in the same way without restraint user data. One consolation is however not really.

PS4 and Xbox One: What the console want to know everything
But not only on the PC, the user of the data collecting mania industry are exposed. Even someone who is today a console into the living room, has to be expected that the producer must collect perk user data. Current systems such as PlayStation 4 or Xbox One do that fairly excessively even and detect when an online connection with PlayStation Network or Xbox Live almost the complete usage of their owners.

What is played, how long and with whom it is played, what apps to download and even complete chats are collected and stored. The data is then used by Sony and Microsoft, among other things for marketing purposes and can also be passed on to third parties, according to the terms of use.
The PS4 detects and notifies user behavior.
The PS4 detects and notifies user behavior.
Who plays with PS4 or Xbox One, therefore should be aware that virtually all of its activities are recorded with the console. In this way, among other things, extensive user profiles on the games and TV behavior of users can be created. User can really protect themselves only if they largely operate their consoles offline prior to data collection.

Smartphone apps: the web advertising industry
This example is simple, right? Clearly, WhatsApp naturally collects data on Facebook, Siri collects for Apple, YouTube for Google and quiz duel for ARD. But wait! So easy it is not. In reality, the data collecting mania of apps is much larger and convenient for the user in most cases incomprehensible.

So the most popular applications also collect secretly many data about user behavior and to send them, for a fee, of course, on so-called ad networks further. Just free apps, this is often the main source of funding. Behind the networks in turn are old acquaintances such as Facebook and Google, but also companies like InMobi Admoda or of which probably have ever heard the fewest smartphone users. They use the information to sell to the users even more targeted and better advertising.
Apps are true world champion in data gathering.
Apps are true world champion in data gathering.
How big the acquisitiveness of apps partially, had a study of the French Academy Eurecom from 2015 revealed among other things. So as part of a test with Music Volume EQ an Android app were identified that were contacted to nearly 2,000 different websites in the background. The curious thing is that the app really only serves to change the volume settings on the smartphone itself. It is hard to believe that contact with 1900 different URLs is necessary for this task.

Total 2000 free apps were tested for the study, of which 70 percent have connected without the user's knowledge to any address in the network. On average, they were more than 40 addresses. Often individual apps sell their data simultaneously to multiple networks. The user is in control of where its data is sent, often starting already with the installation of the respective app.

Oculus Rift VR glasses with Facebook integration
A youngish case of technique that collects user data, is the VR-glasses Oculus Rift. This captured data that is also - and for the parent company Oculus Facebook. If you believe the reports from magazines such as Gizmodo, then the spectacle combines in the background with a Server Group and continuously transmits between 5 kbit / s and 7 kbits / s of data.

What is it about? In addition to relatively harmless data about location, computer configuration and the installed games and information is recorded on height, body shape and movements of the player and passed. Also chats, which are carried out with other players via the Oculus services, stores the manufacturer. What Facebook needs this data? Mainly of course be able to create for marketing purposes and to more detailed user profiles.
The Oculus Rift collects data for Facebook.
The Oculus Rift collects data for Facebook.
However Worse weighs the fact that Facebook also fundamental all usage rights for content claimed, with the Oculus Rift create the user. Created a hobby developers so their own software using the Oculus Rift, the rights are automatically transferred to the software giant. The reason is quite simple. Facebook reserves as the right to use the content created yourself if necessary, to sell or otherwise make money. In this respect, the Terms of Use differ little from those used by the Group on its own platform. There, too, claimed Facebook lump sum once everything you post as a user for itself.

Hysteria is misplaced
But these four examples sound pretty scary and suggest that new technology quasi only serves to spy on customers and consumers on behalf of the advertising industry. It has collecting user data actually some benefits that are often not aware in everyday life. Thus, the collected data is used namely in most cases quite well in improving the user experience. Search engines and social networks can make us only the best proposals, because they know our preferences and our user behavior. Hysteria is therefore definitely misplaced.
