LG G6, Xperia XZ Premium & Huawei P10 in comparison

1. Evolution to Revolution: Design
2. One of them: Technique
3. New sensor, new luck: cameras
4. The future is called HDR: Display
5. The Empire Strikes Back: Conclusion

LG, Sony and Huawei presented their new flagship smartphones at the MWC 2017. The LG G6, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium and the Huawei P10 want to convince partly by innovative technology, partly more by their striking design. Here we compare the three smartphone highlights of the MWC 2017.

1. Evolution to Revolution: Design

The plastic era is over. New smartphone flaggues no longer trust themselves without a dress of glass and metal on the street. The LG G6, the Sony Xperia XZ Premium and the Huawei P10 are high-quality processed from these two materials. So the design is just about the question, in which form metal and glass were poured and no longer whether the smartphones are nobly processed or not. These are the new flagships all.
LG G6, Xperia XZ Premium & Huawei P10 in comparison

The LG G6 with its nearly frameless 18: 9 display a new era of smartphone design. The Galaxy S8 and the iPhone 8 are supposed to be according to the current state of the rumors as synonymous with such a form factor. The Huawei P10, on the other hand, is based on the design of the predecessor, but takes the path with sand-blasted surface in new metallic colors such as green and blue a step further. Meanwhile, Sony remains faithful to the edgy block shape with a large frame above and below the display. The curved glass surface of the Xperia XZ Premium reflects more than before and the smartphone is even more solid than its predecessors.

Verdict: Three times super noble, once revolutionary. The LG G6 has a more innovative design than its competitors.

2. One of them: Technique

While the design is more dependent on personal taste, the technique is more varied. The loser on the data sheet is the Huawei P10, because it is equipped with the same processor as the Huawei Mate 9, which has been available for months: with the Kirin 960. The performance is roughly comparable to that of the Galaxy S7 - a flagship of last year. The LG G6 with the Snapdragon 821 has a somewhat faster processor on board, which is already known from the OnePlus 3T. A modern performance monster is only the Xperia XZ Premium thanks to the new Snapdragon 835, which is also to hold in some models of the Galaxy S8.

Verdict: The powerful Xperia XZ Premium makes the competitors look old.

3. New sensor, new luck: cameras

For lack of test equipment, we can not make a final judgment about the cameras, but the official information already allow for the first conclusions. The Huawei P10 features a 20-megapixel monochrome camera for black-and-white photography and a 12-megapixel color camera. Modern features such as hybrid autofocus and optical image stabilization (OIS) are offered as well as 4K video recordings. The Selfie-Cam solves meanwhile with 8 megapixels. The problem: The well-known Huawei Mate 9 has exactly the same cameras. They could impress us in the test, but they have been there last year.

The dual cameras of the LG G6 are still new. To keep them out of the case, LG has, however, provided them with a lower resolution than their predecessors: 13 megapixels instead of 16 megapixels at the rear and 5 instead of 8 megapixels at the front. After all, the Selfie-Cam OIS and EIS now also offer image stabilization. The front camera will likely beat those of the predecessor, but we do not know yet whether the main cameras with a normal and a wide angle sensor can exceed the LG G5 cameras.

Sony has in the meantime Xperia XZ Premium its new 1 / 2.3 inch camerasensor built - and it was also time, because for several generations Sony has already used the same camera sensor in its flagship. The so-called Motion Eye camera resolves with 19 megapixels and makes slow motion videos in 720p at 960 images per second. The Selfie-Cam does not have to hide with its 13 megapixels synonymous.

Judgment: Finally, a new camera sensor from Sony - and one that could depend on the competition.

4. The future is called HDR: Display

LG G6, Xperia XZ Premium & Huawei P10 in comparison

The Huawei P10 features a 5.1-inch LTPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. This is perfectly fine for the size, but the display does not seem to be distinguished by outstanding features. The LG G6, on the other hand, has a 5.7 inch display with a resolution of 2880 x 1440 pixels. It supports HDR10 and as the first smartphone the superior HDR standard DolbyVision. The Xperia XZ Premium has a 5.5 inch display with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels and HDR10 support.

Verdict: The high-resolution HDR displays of the LG G6 and the Xperia XZ Premium depend on the full-HD display of the Huawei P10.

5. The Empire Strikes Back: Conclusion

The Huawei P10 is a smart smartphone. In the interior, however, the technology of the Huawei Mate 9 from 2016 is largely slumbered. The LG G6 rings a new design era with an almost borderless 18: 9 format and the display supports the HDR standard DolbyVision.

Sony seems to be not interested in what is currently in the Trend magazine for modern smartphone design read. Instead the Xperia XZ Premium is released with another Sony block made of metal. This block contains, however, high-end technology, which is at least in terms of processor and camera to rival the competition. Will the Sony empire fall back after years of bad Xperia sales? We can only make a final judgment on the new flag ships after our tests.

Successor of the Xperia Z5 Premium but not on the MWC 2017?
The Sony Xperia Z5 premium successor could possibly not be shown on the MWC 2017. Instead, the device with the code name Yoshino could only appear behind closed doors and only be officially presented at a later date.
Xperia Z5 Premium

On February 27, Sony plans to introduce new Xperia smartphones as part of the MWC 2017. A legitimate successor for the Xperia Z5 Premium does not seem to bring the manufacturer but with to Barcelona, reports PhoneArena with reference to a Twitter posting of Ricciolo. The premium smartphone may be in the march, but at least at the mobile phone show probably only behind closed doors for a small and exquisite group of people. Recently rumors made the round that Sony would present at the end of February five new Xperia smartphones.

Xperia Z5 successor Yoshino: 4K display and Galaxy S8 chip

This includes a flagship device, which is to operate internally under the code designation Sony Yoshino. Like the Xperia Z5 Premium, this mobile phone should also have a 5.5-inch screen with 4K resolution. In the interior of the Yoshino is supposedly the Qualcomm chip Snapdragon 835 its service. And for that reason, the high-end model could also be delayed. Because large numbers of the high-performance chip is supposed to claim Samsung for its Galaxy S8, whose release is planned for April.

Even if the Yoshino is not shown on the 27th of February on the MWC 2017, the Japanese may have some other interesting models in the luggage, including the Sony BlancBright also a device in the high-end range. The remaining smartphones, on the other hand, are more likely to be located in the mid-class segment.

PS4.5 accelerated by AMD, Nintendo NX with Nvidia as a partner?
Builds Sony the PS4.5 about not voluntarily? Current rumored console manufacturers suppliers AMD was forced to the transitional period between PlayStation 4 and PlayStation. 5 Nintendo however, takes a different approach and uses in the manufacture of its NX well on Nvidia as partner.
PS4

AMD dominated the console market. The chipmaker currently delivers hardware components for the Xbox One, PS4 and Wii U. While all major console producers cooperated in the past, once with Nvidia together. Experience with the first Xbox, the PlayStation 3 and the early days of Nintendo 3DS brought Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, however, to switch pivot from Nvidia on AMD as partner for graphics chips. Only Nintendo is considering now appear to make a new attempt with Nividia the construction of its Nintendo NX.

Nintendo NX with Nvidia graphics?
Impetus for this new rumor was NeoGAF member NateDrake who reports in a forum post from an interview with Nintendo insider Emily Rogers. However, they did not want much more betrayed than that Nvidia will be involved in Nintendo's future hardware - a very vague statement which does not necessarily fit on the recent speculation that Nintendo NX will technically more can not keep up with the consoles of its competitors. Just Nvidia it comes but usually ask you to deliver high-end performance.

PS4.5 only under pressure from AMD?
Whether the Nintendo NX actually relies on Nvidia graphics, could be shown at the Tokyo Game Show 2016 in September. There, the Wii U successor is like the PS4.5 - allegedly revealed - or PlayStation 4K or PS4 Neo. That will come a further development of the PS4 before Sony sends its popular console in the next generation, now seems virtually certain.

However, this step is apparently not entirely voluntary, as Gamepur reported. As the gaming website infers from a Reddit listing, Sony could have been set by AMD under pressure. The supplier plans probably a production change that before the decision, the Japanese console manufacturer: If we follow also the new standard or we insist on the old, which could bring an increase in the production cost? Here, too, is ultimately only a rumor. Finally, PS4.5 is not even officially.
Hacker brings Steam games on the PS4
A hacker who first placed Steam games on a PS4 running. If everything is set correctly, the games work supposedly quite decent. For regular users of the PlayStation 4, the device is too complicated. That could change.
Steam games run first on a PS4

The home developers OsirisX has brought games from the PC games library Steam on a PlayStation 4 and running, as Engadget reports. The implementation requires some effort and is for normal gamers probably overkill. The modification requires a jailbreak, Arch Linux and software libraries Failover Flow. In addition, you need the old version 1.76 of the PS4 operating system for the jailbreak and the Linux installation.

After all, the result already looks quite useful, as can be understood by means of a YouTube demo. The technically more undemanding RPG "Bastion" is running properly in the Steam version on the PlayStation. 4 According to the developer OsirisX most other games run smoothly at medium to low graphics settings.

In the future, probably easily
Average gamers will have to wait if they are interested in the Steam-Mod. There is no simple package that you install and then you could start right away with Steam. However allegedly gewerkelt on a jailbreak for a newer software version (3:50) of the PS4. Sometime the start of Steam games on the PlayStation 4 might be as simple as running "Uncharted 4".

The reason that playing Steam PC Games on the PS4 is at all possible, is the PC-like architecture of the PlayStation 4. Unlike the PlayStation 3 Sony sets on the PS4 on the x86 architecture, as home computers is known. However, one obstacle could for PC ratios now rather poor performance of the PS4 be. This problem can be expected to the planned PlayStation Neo with a significant performance boost.

So spying technology in everyday life, our data from
Technology and Privacy has become a real time issue. Almost all the technical equipment and software programs that we use constantly collect data and send it to the manufacturers, developers and third companies. We declare at four popular examples where your data is collected and what it is being used.
 constantly
Technology is only useful but also collects data constantly.

Windows 10 as the new star among the data spies?
Ever since the release of Windows 10 in July 2015, data protection a key issue when it comes to the operating system. The concerns of many users are not unfounded. namely one selects when setting up Windows 10, the "Express Settings", then the data Sammelwut Microsoft are actually opened the floodgates. By default, Windows 10 detects pretty much the complete usage of the PC owner and also detects when and how often these specific apps used.

these data are used according to Microsoft, to develop the software further. This is certainly correct, but in addition, the company gathers evenly also data for marketing purposes to better selling apps and other products to the users. Furthermore, the Group reserves the right to share the collected data with other companies.

If you want to pass on as few data about his personal usage to Microsoft, should therefore choose when setting up Windows 10 in any case, the "Express Settings" or subsequently withdraw the system permissions granted under "Settings> Privacy" again. But even if users Windows 10 withdraw all authorizations, the data gathering can not completely stop. Either way, the PC connects regularly with Microsoft servers to transmit certain data - or receive.
Windows 10 detects diligent user data.
Windows 10 detects diligent user data.
Optional practical or critical also can be classified to the best setting, after a Windows 10 PC automatically sends the wireless password of the user to his Facebook, Skype or Outlook Contacts. Do this then also a Windows 10 machine and get into the vicinity of said wireless network, they automatically get access. Although the password is transmitted encrypted and can not be viewed by the recipient, while this feature might not appeal to everyone.

The new star among the data collectors is Windows 10 still does not. The operating systems of Apple or Google collect namely in the same way without restraint user data. One consolation is however not really.

PS4 and Xbox One: What the console want to know everything
But not only on the PC, the user of the data collecting mania industry are exposed. Even someone who is today a console into the living room, has to be expected that the producer must collect perk user data. Current systems such as PlayStation 4 or Xbox One do that fairly excessively even and detect when an online connection with PlayStation Network or Xbox Live almost the complete usage of their owners.

What is played, how long and with whom it is played, what apps to download and even complete chats are collected and stored. The data is then used by Sony and Microsoft, among other things for marketing purposes and can also be passed on to third parties, according to the terms of use.
The PS4 detects and notifies user behavior.
The PS4 detects and notifies user behavior.
Who plays with PS4 or Xbox One, therefore should be aware that virtually all of its activities are recorded with the console. In this way, among other things, extensive user profiles on the games and TV behavior of users can be created. User can really protect themselves only if they largely operate their consoles offline prior to data collection.

Smartphone apps: the web advertising industry
This example is simple, right? Clearly, WhatsApp naturally collects data on Facebook, Siri collects for Apple, YouTube for Google and quiz duel for ARD. But wait! So easy it is not. In reality, the data collecting mania of apps is much larger and convenient for the user in most cases incomprehensible.

So the most popular applications also collect secretly many data about user behavior and to send them, for a fee, of course, on so-called ad networks further. Just free apps, this is often the main source of funding. Behind the networks in turn are old acquaintances such as Facebook and Google, but also companies like InMobi Admoda or of which probably have ever heard the fewest smartphone users. They use the information to sell to the users even more targeted and better advertising.
Apps are true world champion in data gathering.
Apps are true world champion in data gathering.
How big the acquisitiveness of apps partially, had a study of the French Academy Eurecom from 2015 revealed among other things. So as part of a test with Music Volume EQ an Android app were identified that were contacted to nearly 2,000 different websites in the background. The curious thing is that the app really only serves to change the volume settings on the smartphone itself. It is hard to believe that contact with 1900 different URLs is necessary for this task.

Total 2000 free apps were tested for the study, of which 70 percent have connected without the user's knowledge to any address in the network. On average, they were more than 40 addresses. Often individual apps sell their data simultaneously to multiple networks. The user is in control of where its data is sent, often starting already with the installation of the respective app.

Oculus Rift VR glasses with Facebook integration
A youngish case of technique that collects user data, is the VR-glasses Oculus Rift. This captured data that is also - and for the parent company Oculus Facebook. If you believe the reports from magazines such as Gizmodo, then the spectacle combines in the background with a Server Group and continuously transmits between 5 kbit / s and 7 kbits / s of data.

What is it about? In addition to relatively harmless data about location, computer configuration and the installed games and information is recorded on height, body shape and movements of the player and passed. Also chats, which are carried out with other players via the Oculus services, stores the manufacturer. What Facebook needs this data? Mainly of course be able to create for marketing purposes and to more detailed user profiles.
The Oculus Rift collects data for Facebook.
The Oculus Rift collects data for Facebook.
However Worse weighs the fact that Facebook also fundamental all usage rights for content claimed, with the Oculus Rift create the user. Created a hobby developers so their own software using the Oculus Rift, the rights are automatically transferred to the software giant. The reason is quite simple. Facebook reserves as the right to use the content created yourself if necessary, to sell or otherwise make money. In this respect, the Terms of Use differ little from those used by the Group on its own platform. There, too, claimed Facebook lump sum once everything you post as a user for itself.

Hysteria is misplaced
But these four examples sound pretty scary and suggest that new technology quasi only serves to spy on customers and consumers on behalf of the advertising industry. It has collecting user data actually some benefits that are often not aware in everyday life. Thus, the collected data is used namely in most cases quite well in improving the user experience. Search engines and social networks can make us only the best proposals, because they know our preferences and our user behavior. Hysteria is therefore definitely misplaced.
