Android devices more error-prone than iPhones - or not?

According to a new statistics come 85 percent of all problems with smartphones on Android devices, and only 15 percent on iOS devices. However, this distribution is likely to result primarily from the respective market share of the platforms. Interestingly, the study but in other respects.

Android smartphones are more prone to problems than iPhones - which says at least a new report Blancco Technology Group, which examines the performance of smartphones. 85 percent of all problems that have been reported in the fourth quarter 2015 from smartphone users, thus came from Android devices. Only 15 percent came from iPhones.

The market share perspective, most numbers

Looking at these statistics regardless of the market share of each producer, then it looks as if Android smartphones generally much more prone to errors than iPhones. However, this observation into perspective almost completely once the market share of operating systems and manufacturers is included in the calculation. So Android has had, according to Gartner in the fourth quarter 2015, a global market share of 80.7 percent, while iOS and therefore the iPhone came to 17.7 percent.

Substituting the market share and the error messages into consideration, then turns out that with Android smartphones statistically only minimally more problems than with iPhones. However, this is also hardly surprising, since iPhones in each case are high-end devices, while Android devices will be sold at price below 100 euros and then, of course, also with much leaner hardware. Bottom line, it is likely problems on Android and iOS devices so enter with similar frequency.

Poor mobile networks in Europe?

It is interesting, rather, what problems are reported by the customers from the various regions. So the statistics in Europe has clearly led to problems with the network operator. Whopping 42 percent of all reported errors were therefore due to the signal of the network operator. In second place then followed with 14 percent call problems. In the third, fourth and five eventually followed problems with the camera, advanced camera problems and Error Wi-Fi coverage area.

In North America and Asia, the mobile networks seem to be much more developed than in Europe. In both regions, namely our problems with the network operator and call problems not among the top five of the most common problems. Instead, the statistics are cited in both North America and in Asia to problems with the performance of the smartphone. On the places two, three, four and five then follow problems in both regions with camera, battery, headphones and the microphone.
