For Nexus smartphones: Google wants to develop its own chips

Google could in future develop their own processor chips for its Nexus smartphones. Thus, the company would apply the same strategy as Apple with its iPhone processors. For implementation of the project, the manufacturer would however first find a suitable hardware partners.

The hardware business enjoys traditional secondary importance to Google. So the Nexus smartphones are so far exclusively manufactured by third party manufacturers. In the future, however, the company could pursue a new strategy and in collaboration with suppliers to develop their own processor chips, reports The Information. A similar strategy has also Apple, for example, the A9 chip has developed iPhone 6s together with manufacturers like Samsung and lets him produce from suppliers.

Google mixes more into a hardware store
Tendency to become more involved in the hardware business, have been recognized for some time at Google. The company had first presented in September for several years no new Nexus tablet its hardware partners. Rather, it was presented with the pixels 9 C a separate device as a successor to the HTC Nexus. A specially developed processor chip would also give Google the ability to better adapt to new versions of Android to the hardware components of the smart phones.

It is questionable, however, whether a specially developed chip and a specially customized version of Android is at all meaningful. After the operating system lives of its adaptability to a variety of hardware configurations. On the other hand an entry of Google into the chip development could possibly ensure that other manufacturers also get access to the chip design of the company.

Samsung, Qualcomm, or at least a different partner?
What's in the plans off, Google declined to comment so far. Even if the rumors were true, the Android developers would first have but only once to find a partner for the development of its own processor. Would come into question as a whole host of companies that are currently developing even chips for Android smartphones. For example, Samsung, Qualcomm, MediaTek, Intel or Nvidia.
